When Pigs Dance follows Evans’ 2024 critically-acclaimed debut Porkestra EP Willow Pillow, about which esteemed American music reviewer Robert Christgau of Village Voice fame says, “I immediately fell in love with these singularly eccentric love songs… A MINUS”
Evans, a long-time fixture on Atlanta’s roots Americana scene, formed his Porkestra after releasing 9 CDs with Chickens and Pigs. Working closely with co-producer/bassist Sean McPherson, Evans crafted Willow Pillow as a loose rumination on new-found romance.
For When Pigs Dance, McPherson took production reins, choosing a handful of classics from the Chickens and Pigs catalog as well as selecting studio personnel. Evans added re-imagined arrangements, with greasy jump blues, violin-led acoustic folk, and solo piano backing replacing several traditional rock-styled tracks. Both Porkestra releases were crafted at McPherson’s East Atlanta Recording. “Sean’s great to work with,” says Evans. “He’s got loads of fantastic vintage gear, a great ear and a deep understanding of how I wish my records to sound. Often he knows what I’m looking for even before I figure it out myself.” The Jeff Evans Porkestra’s upcoming Eddie’s appearance will feature selections from both releases alongside new material being prepared for a full-length record scheduled for release in early 2026.
