An evening of the best swing from the UKs leading Vibraphonist! An amazing start to 2026 and we hope to see you there!Jonny Mansfield is an award-winning British vibraphonist, percussionist, composer and bandleader, widely regarded as one of the leading voices of contemporary UK jazz.
Born in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, he grew up in a musical family and developed a strong grounding in both classical and jazz traditions before studying at Chetham’s School of Music and later the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he graduated with first-class honours. Mansfield came to wider prominence after winning the Kenny Wheeler Jazz Prize in 2018, a major award recognising outstanding performance and composition, which led to his signing with Edition Records. He has since led a range of projects that showcase his distinctive compositional voice, from intimate chamber-jazz settings to large-scale ensemble writing.
His 11-piece band Elftet released its debut album on Edition Records in 2019 to critical acclaim, featuring collaborations with internationally renowned saxophonist Chris Potter, as well as leading UK jazz figures such as Kit Downes and Gareth Lockrane. Alongside this, Mansfield has released a series of highly personal recordings, including The Air In Front Of You and Portrait, the latter composed, recorded and produced in a single day, highlighting his spontaneous and process-driven approach to music-making.
He is also a co-founder of the band Bonsai, which has toured extensively across Europe. Mansfield’s work has been recognised through multiple honours and awards, including a Parliamentary Jazz Award and numerous Royal Academy of Music prizes and scholarships, as well as Ivor Novello Award nominations for his large-ensemble and extended compositional work.
As a collaborator, he has worked with artists including Yazz Ahmed, Stan Sulzmann, Nikki Iles, Emma Rawicz, Ivo Neame and members of Empirical, and has performed at major venues and festivals such as the Royal Albert Hall and leading European jazz festivals.
In addition to performing and composing, he is an active educator, teaching jazz vibraphone and improvisation at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, and continues to release music independently through his label, Resonant Postcards.
Tonight Jonny teams up again with Nic Saunders and RhythmEarth Trio featuring Simon Whittaker on Drums and Tim Cole on Bass.
