Join The Write Salon for an evening of investigative journalism and discussion exploring the incredible story of international volunteers in the Spanish Civil War. Historian GILES TREMLETT will be talking to foreign correspondent Pallavi Aiyar about his new book, The International Brigades: Fascism, Freedom and the Spanish Civil War. We’re thrilled to host this event at Madrid’s newest English language bookstore, the Secret Kingdoms in beautiful Barrio de Las Letras. GILES TREMLETT is a prize-winning historian, journalist and author of the breath-taking Ghosts of Spain. He is a contributing editor for The Guardian, a regular on TVE, La Sexta and Cadena SER, and has written for El País and El Mundo. His biography Isabella of Castile: Europe's First Great Queen, won the prestigious Elizabeth Longford Historial Biography Prize in 2018
Giles will be in conversation with award-winning foreign correspondent and author PALLAVI AIYAR. Pallavi writes a weekly newsletter on global travel and culture called The Global Jigsaw. Her latest book is Orienting: An Indian in Japan. Pallavi has spent over two decades reporting from China, Indonesia, Japan, Europe and India. She is currently based in Madrid.
