In this workshop, we'll discuss idiomatic ways to make a tune or song sound and feel like bluegrass, chord and rhythm playing in a bluegrass context, the ways in which the bluegrass ensemble works together and functions, and some of the history of the music.Improvisation is a big part of bluegrass and so we'll also spend some time with the basics of improvisation and how to play thematically appropriate bluegrass solos. This workshop will be of most value to instruments commonly in the bluegrass ensemble: mandolinists, guitarists, fiddlers, banjo players, and bassists.
