The Informed Library: Fireside Chat - Safety & Security in Libraries (Free Event)

Where: Red Deer Public Library (in person or online)
Hosted by: Library Association of Alberta (LAA) & The Alberta Library (TAL)
Join us for The Informed Library, a free learning series for library staff across Alberta. Everyone is welcome—whether you're brand‑new to library work or have years of experience.
This session features a presentation from Calgary Public Library, focusing on the Canadian Urban Libraries Council (CULC) Safety & Security Toolkit. We’ll take a practical, down‑to‑earth look at how libraries are responding to changing safety and security needs in public spaces.
Whether you join us in person at Red Deer Public Library or tune in online, you’ll get the chance to connect with library colleagues, safety leaders, and community partners while exploring real‑world approaches to creating safer, more resilient library spaces.
During this session, you’ll:
- Get an overview of the CULC Safety & Security Toolkit
- Hear practical insights from Calgary Public Library leaders
- Take part in a guided discussion and Q&A
- Pick up ideas for strengthening safety and support in your own library
Coming in person?
Stick around afterward for some informal networking and light refreshments supported by the Library Association of Alberta.
