About this Event
The Incompleteness Theorem
Whether you like art, pop, rock, or quirky comedy you'll love this show. Coinciding with the Deptford X weekend it will spotlight artists who arrived at entertainment via writing, performing or producing music or comedy. Some may like to discuss their influences from art and literature. Most owe some gratitude to the British Art School tradition.
When Clive Langer was at Liverpool Art School he co-curated that quintessential 'art school' band Deaf School. Years later he found new ways to apply his creativity. Suggs once referred to him as "the eighth member of Madness". Clive will perform 'Shipbuilding' - a song he co-wrote with Elvis Costello.'
Others in this evening's entertainment also worked as writers and producers - thus enabling or supporting others to reach international prominence. Three other members of Deaf School will also introduce themselves. Songwriter, sax player and producer Ian Ritchie has toured, written for, and collaborated with legends such as Roger Waters, Gary Numan and Laurie Anderson.
As a song writer and performer, Deaf School's bassist Steve Lindsey(Avo) wrote songs for The Korgies and been seen cavorting around with his band The Planets on Top of The Pops. As a producer and music publisher he has also worked with many luminaries such as Massive Attack, Pulp and U2.
Paul Taylor is a freelance musician, author and poet who uniquely combines solo trombone and poetry in what he calls, unsurprisingly, @trombone poetry. Paul has also worked alongside some of the best in jazz, pop and classical music.
Hollor is a visual artist who mainly uses electronic circuits to improvise sounds and music. Originally studying graphic design, Leila Ziu is an artist who performs, creates sounds and makes films. Inspired by film, cult TV, performance, drag and music John Lee Bird makes dolls resembling celebrities and other horror film low-life.
A Dunn Deal. Artist Alan Dunn mainly works with sound and popular music. If you bring along an unwanted copy of Paul Young’s No Parlez LP on vinyl he will exchange it for a first edition copy of ZERO PLAN, the zine dedicated to his collecting of the LP (356 copies to date). The issue includes an interview with Rutherford Chang, the artist collecting the Beatles’ White Album. It also comes with a free beermat.
Just when you think it is safe to relax your sphincter The Rev Max Ripple will suck all the fun out of the air with his pontificatory pedantry. Some parishioners are amazed that his 'Incompleteness Theorem' sermons never seem to end....fortunately, the pub has a 10.00pm curfew even though the bar keeps on serving until late...
