In-Between Series presents: Gerald Law II
Monday, August 16, 2021
Doors at 7:00 p.m. | show at 7:30 PM
Sensory Vibes is a new solo venture by Gerald Law II that explores the merging of rhythm with melody, harmony, and various other textures all from the drummer’s seat. These explorations are made possible by the use of technology from the amazingly innovative company, Sunhouse. These sensors, known as Sensory Percussion, have breathed a fresh breath of possibilities into Law’s creative approach and transforming the acoustic drumkit into a flexible and expressive electronic instrument.
Drummer, composer, and now band leader and singer, Gerald Law II built a reputation as the go-to drummer for jazz and R&B artists. If you’ve seen him play, you know why he’s affectionately called “the smiling drummer.” From his drum throne, Law drives the rhythm and elevates the performance of everyone around him. That includes his band of versatile virtuosos, The Clutch, who bring audiences to incredible heights with music that always grooves, whether simmering with soulful energy or exploding in creative improvisation.
Having released two albums in 2020 (From G to You: Vol I & Vol II), Law is poised to break out in the coming years with high profile performances and more relentlessly creative compositions and recordings. Maybe his famous on-stage smile comes from feeling so at home making music—or maybe he’s just happy to see us.
This is a program of the Downtown Arts District in partnership with the Timucua Arts Foundation.
