Kapampángan Orthography: The Importance of Diacritical Marks in Written Kapampángan
Masakit (painful), Másakit (sick), and Masákit (difficult). These are three words with three different pronunciations and three diffferent meanings. It is easy to distinguish the three if they were written in the indigenous Kapampángan script, Kulitan, but when written in the Roman script, they are practically written in the same way except for the placement of the necessary diacritical marks. É la pú panagaulâ (decoration) dén né. É la pû pampayárti. They serve a spcific function, that is, to indicate the long vowels and the final glotttal stops in the Kapampángan Language when it is written in the Roman script.
