At the Dance Factory, we teach the authentic syncopated Hustle, a style with deep roots in 1970s New York City. Originally born in Latin communities as the "Latin Hustle," the dance evolved from a six-step count (1-2-3-4-5-6) into a more dynamic rhythm. By 1973, dancers integrated a syncopated "and" step from Mambo, eventually refining the rhythm into the modern "&1-2-3" count that defined the disco era following the hit song "The Hustle."We offer two distinct levels to help you master this high-energy dance:
Beginner Hustle Class- Saturdays at 10am
* Who it’s for: Students with little to no experience.
* The Goal: To build your confidence and make you feel at home on the dance floor.
* What you’ll learn: We focus on the essential "&1-2-3" count, building a solid rhythmic foundation, and mastering core partnership connections. Key patterns include the basic step and fundamental underarm turns.
Intermediate Hustle Class- Saturdays at 11am
* Who it’s for: Experienced dancers who can execute all basic steps naturally and without hesitation.
* What you’ll learn: We dive deeper into advanced lead-and-follow techniques, body mechanics, complex turn patterns, and sophisticated footwork to elevate your social dancing.
