Texas Hold'em on the Humble
In a Texas Hold'em game where the house keeps half of the $100 buy-in, here’s how the game typically operates:
Game Setup
- Buy-In: Each player buys in for $100. The house retains $50, so players effectively have $50 in chips to play with.
- Blinds: The game will have a small blind and a big blind, which are mandatory bets posted by the two players to the left of the dealer. For example, the small blind could be $1 and the big blind $2.
Gameplay
- Dealing Cards: Each player receives two private cards (known as hole cards). The dealer then places five community cards face up on the table in three stages: the flop (three cards), the turn (one card), and the river (one card).
- Betting Rounds:
- Pre-Flop: After receiving their hole cards, players have the option to call the big blind, raise, or fold.
- Flop: The dealer reveals the flop, followed by another round of betting.
- Turn: The dealer places the turn card, followed by another betting round.
- River: The dealer reveals the river card, followed by the final round of betting.
Showdown: If there are two or more players remaining after the final betting round, a showdown occurs. Players reveal their hole cards, and the best five-card hand (made up of their hole cards and the community cards) wins the pot.
Winning the Game
- Hand Rankings: Standard poker hand rankings apply, from high card to royal flush.
- Pots: Players win pots by either having the best hand at showdown or by forcing all other players to fold.
Additional Notes
- Rebuys: If players lose their chips, they may have the option to rebuy into the game under the same conditions.
- House Advantage: With half of the buy-in retained by the house, players should be mindful that their effective bankroll is limited to $50, which can affect strategy and risk tolerance.
