"Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!"Salute! The Hoo Ha returns to its usual home of James' Bistro for the first time this year. And as it falls on the Ides Of March, the theme is betrayal, predictions, superstition, bad omens. Or just the Romans. It's all down to how our DJs choose to interpret the theme.
It's a new year, but still the same Hoo Ha rules - there are 12 guaranteed 20 minute DJ slots. To be one of our 12, stick your name down here (no experience necessary, we'll supervise all newbies if needed), and a couple of weeks before the event, we pick 12 names from the hat at random, with everyone else as reserves (reserves may be promoted to the 12 at short notice). Also, although there's no guarantee of this, we may pick a reserve to play a warmup set, and another for a closedown set.
A second draw takes place at 7pm on the night itself to determine the main time slots. You could be on first at 7:30pm, or headlining at 11:10pm, you won't know until the night (although if you have specific timing considerations we can bend the rules as we appreciate people have travel requirements etc). We do like it if you stick around to support the other DJs though.
You can play vinyl, CD, or MP3s, however if you want to go down the latter route, please let us know in advance so we can make sure you're accommodated, but please no automatic playlists as it takes the fun out of it!
No genres are out of bounds, the only rule is no repeats (covers are allowed though). So bring a few spare tracks with you - if somebody beats you to one of your picks, you're covered.
Also, don't be afraid to sign up if you've not been before, we'll all be on hand to help any newcomers. No snobbery, no egos, no superstar DJs, it's all about having fun and enjoying the music, and having a dance (if you like).
And if you don't make the lineup, come along anyway, have some great food, and most importantly, help us raise money for charity. We know things are tight these days, so even though entry is free, we encourage people to make whatever donation they can (but only if you can!). Every penny collected on the night goes to our chosen charity LAMP (www.lampadvocacy.co.uk)
