About this Event

Join Stoke Park historian, Steve England, on a fascinating journey back in time to learn about the history of the Stoke Park Estate, fully funded as part of the Stoke Park Project.

Steve will take you on a walk back in time throughout the park, looking at the wonderful features, hidden structures and monuments in and around the woodlands dating back to the 11th Century. He will share the fascinating history of the yellow Dower House on the hill, and teach all about the treasures dating back many hundreds of years.

Hill walking will be involved, approximately a 2 mile walk. Please wear suitable clothing and sturdy footwear. We will be meeting outside the Vench Adventure Playground and this walk will be approximately 2 hours long.

Please bring a drink, camera and notepad! Please note this walk does not go inside the privately owned Dower House property.

The Stoke Park Project - what is it and why is my place funded?

This is your opportunity to come and be part of a community conversation about Stoke Park. Bristol City Council wants to hear from you about which of the Park’s heritage and access features needs improving first.

By taking part in a fully funded walk with Steve England, you will learn all about the heritage, history and nature of the park, and afterwards you will be asked to send feedback based on what you’ve seen and learned. Please do fill in the short 3 minute survey you'll receive via email!

After the walk you will also have the chance to chat to Maria from Lockleaze Neighbourhood Trust about your feelings and opinions. Which heritage aspects do you want to see restored first and foremost? Where could Stoke Park be easier to access for all?

The feedback received will inform how Bristol City Council manage the estate – so this really is your chance to influence the future of Stoke Park.

We request for any one individual to only book ONE funded space if possible throughout the programme please.

Cancellation/Postponing due to Poor Weather

SE Outdoor Learning events take place outdoors, and therefore unfortunately we may need to be postponed or cancelled in the days leading up to the event if it seems that the weather will be too poor for it to be run safely. We will always aim to confirm cancellation of the event 24 - 48 hours in advance (though on very rare occassions, sudden weather changes may mean its closer than this). Please keep an eye on your emails and Facebook for information regarding this. If you cannot make the postponed date, please request a refund and we will be able to issue this for you asap.
