Join us for an unforgettable hike along the Ruta de los Puentes Colgantes (Hanging Bridges Route) in Chulilla, one of the most iconic hiking destinations in the Valencian Community. The trail follows the Turia river through a dramatic canyon where you’ll feel small walking between vertical limestone walls. Along the way, we’ll cross suspension bridges that rise up to 15 meters above the river, offering breathtaking perspectives of the gorge.Although the bridges were rebuilt in 2013 to promote tourism, their history dates back to the 1950s, when workers building the Loriguilla reservoir constructed bridges to shorten their daily commute across the canyon. These were swept away during the catastrophic flood of 1957, and only decades later were they restored for hikers to enjoy.
Our journey also takes us to Charco Azul (Blue Puddle), a hidden turquoise pool framed by cliffs just 10 meters apart at its narrowest point. Its name, however, comes not from its color but from the Arabic word Azud, referring to the small dam once used for irrigation.
With 16 km and 350 m of elevation gain, this is a medium-level hike suitable for those comfortable with longer routes. Most of the way follows wide trails, making it manageable for hikers with moderate experience. Guided by Melchor, you’ll not only enjoy the natural beauty but also uncover the rich history and stories behind one of Valencia’s most spectacular landscapes.
