About this Event

The Guinness Challenge - Split the G!

Come join us at Jack Diamonds for an epic event where you can show off your skills and attempt to Split the G in a double-elimination tournament. It'll be fun, it'll be competitive, and it'll bring together Guinness enthusiasts who aren't afraid of a good time!

For those who don't know, 'Splitting the G' means taking one single sip from a fresh pint of Guinness, attempting to bring the level of liquid exactly to a specific point on the glass. We'll be primarily aiming at the top 'arm' of the 'G.' It's somewhat easy to get the hang of, with practice, but it's also surprisingly challenging.

Your fee gets you four 20oz Guinness pints, to be used for each round of the tourney. This includes tax + 20% gratuity for your friendly bartender. TO SAVE MONEY ON THE EVENTBRITE FEE, go to Jack Diamonds in person and get your ticket from a friendly bartender. Be sure to give them your name + contact info.

So you get four pints of Guinness with your fee. If you're eliminated after two rounds, you can redeem your remaining pints anyway - no worries there. You're really just paying for 4 Guinness - the tourney is just a fun way to make it interesting lol

Your host will be a guy named Matt. If you send questions in, he'll be the guy getting back to you! He has written this entire description, fully in 3rd-person, embarassingly.

Prizes include Gift Vouchers and Guinness Swag

Here are the rules for the tournament. Heads up, these rules may be adjusted here and there, but this is the game plan.

Round 1 - Initial Pairings

  • Random Pairings: All 32 participants randomly assigned into groups of 4
  • First Round Matches: Each group competes to Split the G. Winners (best splitter from each group) advance to the winners bracket of the next round. The other participants move to the losers bracket.

Round 2 - Winners and Losers Brackets

  • Winners Bracket Pairings: Winners from Round 1 randomly assigned into two groups of 4
  • Losers Bracket Pairings: Losers from Round 1 randomly assigned into six groups of 4
  • Second Round Matches: Each group competes to Split the G. Winners of the winners bracket (best 2 splitters from each group) advance to the next winners bracket round. Losers of the winners bracket advance to the next losers bracket round. Winners of the losers bracket (best 2 splitters from each group) advance to the next losers bracket round. The other participants in the losers bracket are eliminated.

Round 3 - “Kiss the Harp”

  • Winners Bracket Pairings: There are four remaining players in the winners bracket, competing in a group
  • Losers Bracket Pairings: Losers from the Round 2 winners bracket and winners from the Round 2 losers bracket randomly assigned into four groups of 4
  • Third Round Matches: Each group competes to 'Kiss the Harp,' (not Split the G), this time aiming the top of the liquid to align exactly against the bottom of the Guinness harp on the glass. Winners of the winners bracket (best 2 splitters from the group) advance to the finals, skipping the fourth round. They will have an extra drink ticket to redeem after the tournament. Winners of the losers bracket (best splitter from each group) advance to the semifinals. The other participants in the losers bracket are eliminated.

Round 4 - Semifinals

  • Losers Bracket Pairings: The six remaining players in the losers bracket compete in a single group.
  • Semifinal Matches: The group competes to Split the G. Winners of the losers bracket (best 2 splitters from the group) advance to the finals.

Round 5 - Final Round

  • Final Match Pairing: The final 4 participants compete in a single match.
  • Final Match: The top splitter is declared the overall winner of the tournament.

Phew! Convoluted? Yes! Structured to be as fair as possible, with a chance to come back from a loss and get to the final? Yup. Gonna be an absolute cl0st3rf0ck? Most likely...but Matt will keep it organized and fair. Don't worry - just keep splitting that G as close as you can, you won't have any issues :)
