About this Event

Feeling down about climate change? Wish there was something you could do but don’t know where to start? Two luminaries discuss their personal experiences in climate action and the organizations they’ve started that help people work on solutions to this massive global problem. It’s a journey from confusion to clarity, helplessness to hope, paralysis to momentum.

Find out what you can do to cultivate the climate warrior within! Members Ning Recio and Michael Gold will be hosting the evening and Michael will moderate the discussion featuring Dr. Kamal Kapadia, Co-Founder and Chief Learning Officer at Terra.do and Eugene Kirpichov, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Work On Climate.

Bios:

Dr. Kamal Kapadia is co-founder and Chief Learning Officer at Terra.do, a green skilling platform with the mission of getting 100 million people working on climate change this decade. Terra.do combines learning, jobs, and community into integrated offerings designed to propel people into climate work. Kamal has 25 years of work, research, and teaching experience in the fields of climate change, clean energy, and sustainable development. She started her career in the late 1990s working for solar startups SELCO in India and Sri Lanka, and Solarcentury (now Statkraft) in the UK. She has consulted on clean energy planning with the World Bank and managed research and communications for Blue Planet Foundation in Hawaii, which successfully lobbied for the U.S.’s first state-level 100% renewable electricity law. Kamal was also a research fellow at the Environmental Change Institute, Oxford, where she taught in the Master’s Program in Environmental Change and Management. She holds an M.Sc. in Environmental Change and Management from Oxford and a Ph.D. in Energy and Resources from University of California, Berkeley.

Eugene Kirpichov is the co-founder and Executive Director of Work On Climate, a non-profit focused on building the workforce needed to solve climate change. Eugene started Work On Climate after quitting his 15-year software career to focus on climate and meeting hundreds of other professionals in the same boat. Work On Climate has built the world’s largest professional community of its kind and helped several thousand people land jobs working on climate solutions. Now they are focusing on the full scale of the climate talent transition—hundreds of millions of people across all roles and sectors—by rallying the power of the entire mainstream talent ecosystem.

Michael Gold, Moderator - As founder of Word Clouds Consulting, Michael helps people and organizations talk about climate change in a way that is authentic and impactful. A media professional and content specialist, he has extensive experience in top-tier outlets like Reuters and The Economist Group. From climate-tech startups to established energy companies to educational platforms, his clients are telling climate stories to an audience seeking solutions and tired of the fatalism often associated with this daunting topic. His decade-plus experience living and working in greater China has given him a perspective that cuts across cultures. In 2019, he moved back to his hometown of San Francisco, just in time for the devastating wildfires of summer 2020. The day that the sky turned the same color he recalls from his days in Beijing was a turning point. He made up his mind to focus on global warming and contribute a piece, however small, to solving this puzzle. Find out more at https://wordclouds.consulting/
