On April 26th The Griots of Oakland Experience will touch your heart and activate your spirit. We will be celebrating the launch of The Griots of Oakland 2024 Book with an amazing multi-media art installation, compelling griots panel, and electric live performances.

We trained 10 McClymonds High School students in our KOO Media Academy on conducting oral history interviews. These young Black men interviewed over 80 Black males across Oakland to uncover the often marginalized stories.
These interviews created the compelling text for our second Griots of Oakland book. We also took photos of the interview subjects and behind the scenes to highlight the beauty, brilliance, and diversity of being a Black male.
The Griots students will share their experience learning and conducting interviews with Black Males. In the multi-media installation, we will showcase some interviews in private filming areas. We will highlight the prominent portrait photos that will come to life with Augmented Reality (AR) dynamic embedded videos with the Black Terminus app.

In West Africa, a griot is one of the most revered people in the community. Filled with confidence, and treated with the utmost respect; the griot is the holder of the history and legacy of a family, community, or tribe.
