This event is SOLD OUT. Please visit elmwoodcemetery.org/events and register for the encore presentation on Thursday, November 7th.

The first war that shook the world.
World War I, lasting from 1914 to 1918, was a global conflict involving most major world powers. Triggered by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, it featured trench warfare, technological advancements, and devastating casualties. It is estimated that 9 million people died while fighting in the Great War, with 23 million wounded. It was not only a crushing war event but also a tipping point for one of the deadliest influenza epidemics in recorded history.
There are hundreds of veterans buried in Elmwood Cemetery who fought in World War I. Their lives were interrupted by war, but their memories will be shared and discussed by Germantown Historical Association President Andrew Pouncey on Thursday, September 19th, at 6 pm in the Lord's Chapel at Elmwood Cemetery. The cost is $10, and advance registration is required.
