Bring your friends and family out to Forevergreen Nature Preserve for a day of creativity and hands-on discovery! Whether we’re outside in the snow or inside the Brodhead Creek Heritage Center in our cozy “Snow Lab,” get ready to get a little messy and discover the cool science hiding in winter.
❄️Outdoor Snowman Building Contest❄️
If the preserve is covered in snow, groups of 2 or more will team up to build their very own snowmen. We’ll provide hats and scarves, and you’ll get to decorate pinecones, twigs, and other surprises! As you roll and stack, you’ll also learn a little science—like how snowflakes form, why some snow is perfect for packing, and how animals use snow to survive the winter.
Prizes will be awarded for an assortment of surprise categories!
❄️ Indoor “Snow Lab”❄️
No snow on that day? No problem! Inside, we will experiment with making “snow” out of shaving cream and baking soda. It’s squishy, fluffy, and surprisingly close to the real thing. You’ll get to sculpt mini snowmen, decorate them with provided materials, and discover the science behind how household items can mimic snow’s texture when combined.

Warm up with hot cocoa and light refreshments.
