Celebrate Minnesota libraries and reading by joining in on the Great North Start Read Together!
On Saturday, September 20th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM libraries across Minnesota will host The Great North Star Read Together, a statewide celebration of the heart of every community: our libraries. Users of all types of libraries are asked to drop in and read to show that Minnesotans are library supporters!
This all-ages event invites Minnesotans to show up, settle in, and support their local libraries by doing something simple and powerful—reading. Whether it’s five minutes or the full two hours, readers are encouraged to bring a book, grab a chair, and help shine a spotlight on the vital roles libraries play in our lives.
Why? Because libraries are more than buildings and bestsellers. They’re gathering spots, learning hubs for everyone, safe spaces, and cornerstones for informed, thriving communities. This statewide ‘read-in is a joyful way to show that we see—and need—our libraries.
Let’s remind Minnesota what libraries make possible. Let’s fill the state with readers on September 20.
Since this event will take place over the lunch hour, a reminder about our food policy in the Marshall Library: you're welcome to have light snacks and beverages with secure lids. Please don't bring full meals, hot food, smelly food, or anything that needs a utensil to eat into the library. If the weather is nice, you are welcome to eat a meal in the library courtyard!
At 1:00 PM, after the Read Together wraps up, feel free to hang out by the fireplace for an informal share-and-recommend book club. Chat about what you read--whatever it was!--and get book suggestions.
