After years of performing together, pianist and composer James Hurley and tenor Dean Power decided to celebrate their shared heritage by bringing it to the concert stage, connecting their homelands—Newfoundland and Labrador and Ireland—through music rooted in a rich cultural history. James began by arranging Newfoundland folksongs and setting Duncan Major’s poetry to music, while Dean selected Irish poetry from Yeats, Joyce, Moore, and Parnell, which James transformed into compositions for "The Great Irish Poets Songbook."
Their collaboration blends the earthy charm of folk music with expressive vocal-piano arrangements, shaped by James’s improvisational style and Dean’s vocal expertise.
Despite living in different countries, they’ve created over 40 songs since 2022, premiering across Europe and Canada, with the tour continuing in 2025 to Paris, Dublin, and now St. John's and other parts of Newfoundland.
