The editors and staff writers at HRB would like to invite you to join us at The Staircase on Wednesday May 22, 2024 from 7-9 p.m. for an event celebrating poetry.Taking our cue from the format of CBC’s Canada Reads, we have asked five wonderful Hamiltonians to select one book of poetry published in Canada and engage in a discussion led by our host, writer and host of GetLit, @jamietennant, to defend their chosen book as the one that all of Hamilton should read.
Our book champions include editor and writer, Iqra Abid; writer and multidisciplinary artist, Danielle Boissoneau; Hamilton City Councillor, Cameron Kroetsch; writer, poet, and spoken word artist, Eddie Lartey; and writer, spoken word artist and Hamilton's first Poet in Place, Lishai Peel.
At the end of the evening's discussion, we will ask the audience to vote on which of the five books should win The Great Hamilton Poetry Show. All books that are part of the discussion will be available for purchase at the event.
All proceeds from ticket sales for the event will go to paying our writers and continuing our ongoing independently-funded mission to publish quality literary coverage in Hamilton and beyond. Included in the admission ticket price of $20 per person is one raffle ticket to enter to win one of several door prizes.
A limited number of tickets will be available at the door, and there will be a PWYC option. Members of our Page Turner program may join us for free! We look forward to seeing you there.
Email [email protected] with any questions about the event, and be sure to get your tickets!
