ROSS K. TANGEDAL is Associate Professor of English and Director/Publisher of the Cornerstone Press at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. He is the author of The Preface: American Authorship in the Twentieth Century (Palgrave Macmillan 2021), and the editor of Good Country: Ernest Hemingway and the American West (forthcoming 2025), The Routledge Companion to F. Scott Fitzgerald (forthcoming 2025), Michigan Salvage: The Fiction of Bonnie Jo Campbell (2023), and Editing the Harlem Renaissance (2021). He specializes in American print & publishing culture, book history, bibliography, textual editing, and the profession of authorship, as well as Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald. He has served as an associate volume editor for The Letters of Ernest Hemingway since 2018, and he is currently developing a project centered on publishing the complete letters of F. Scott Fitzgerald. While Hemingway is his favorite writer, Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby is his favorite novel.
THE GREAT GATSBY introduces us to the young, handsome, and fabulously rich, Jay Gatsby seems to have everything. But at his mansion east of New York City, where the party never seems to end, one thing will always be out of reach: the married Daisy Buchanan, whose house is visible from Gatsby’s just across the bay. A brilliant evocation of the Roaring Twenties and a satire of a postwar America obsessed with wealth and status, The Great Gatsby is a novel whose power remains undiminished after a century.
