For this our inaugural year we are thrilled to have our music provided by Kaw Creek! Made up of Alice Boyle on fiddle/viola and Robert Rosenberg on guitar/banjo/feet their goal is to thrill the dancers inspire the caller and deliver all the energy and power of a bigger band. Their repertoire spans traditions and includes a healthy dose or modern weird and wonderful tunes. This duo is half of the band STEAM! which has played for contra dance weekends nationally for 14 years. As a duo they have played dances and concerts throughout the region since 2018. They bring huge energy and variety to every event—you will be inspired to dance and will enjoy every minute!
Calling this exciting event is Kate McBride! A transplant to Nebraska from the east coast, she grew up dancing. She was a regular at many contra dances in Massachusetts, her home state. Additionally, she and her family participated extensively in the Swedish Folk Dance group in Boston. Taking to calling was a natural progression and she has been been doing so locally for twenty years. She and her family are familiar faces at the monthly contras in Omaha and Lincoln. She has also called multiple times in Kansas (with Kaw Creek) and at the New England Folk Festival. She has also been the leader of the Scandinavian Folk Dancers of Omaha since 1998. Outside her usual gigs, she has been invited to call for schools, co-ops, weddings, and family gatherings. She has inspired all four of her kids to dance, call, and even write dances. Her goal is to introduce people of all ages and experience levels to the magic that happens when they connect with each other through music and dance.
