Jared Clayton Brown refers to himself as a second-wave Golden Girls fan. He first developed his love for the show when he watched syndicated reruns on Lifetime in his residence hall room as an undergrad student at Eastern Michigan University. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in English Language, he took his passion for the series to the next level when he used the show as the basis for his thesis while pursuing a Master of Arts in Popular Culture Studies at Bowling Green State University. He examined the show’s impact on social beliefs regarding older women, its influence on the television sitcom landscape, and its use of contemporary social issues to connect with audience members of all ages. He currently works as a digital news editor for WOSU, the NPR affiliate in Columbus, Ohio. Jared previously spent several years as a Louisville resident and grew to love the city and its amazing people, and he considers the Derby City to be a second home.
