The Globe Summer Festival 23-25 July
We are delighted to present our first three-day, multi-genre festival that you can enjoy in person at The Globe and/or via high-quality livestreams (which you can view at anytime for the following week).
Working with local music promoters and organisations including Bradley Creswick, GemArts Masala Festival, Jazz North East, and Born Lippy, we have put together a programme of Folk, Americana, Poetry, Comedy, Blues, Rock, Western Classical, Indian Classical, Trad Jazz and Contemporary Jazz featuring superb performers from North East England and Scotland.
FRIDAY 23 JULY EVENING (doors 7pm) Ticket £15
Bertie Armstrong & Niles Krieger (8pm)
Transatlantic folk duo based in Newcastle play a blend of American and English folk music, with old-time banjo and fiddle, and two part harmonies.
Martin Carthy & Eliza Carthy (9pm)
Legendary, award-winning, father & daughter duo performing folk songs with guitar and fiddle. Figureheads of the English folk revival.
SATURDAY 24 JULY AFTERNOON (doors 2pm) Ticket £10 afternoon or £20 all day
Tommy (3pm)
Holy Moly & The Crackers’ drummer goes solo, with a voice like Otis Redding and song-writing reminiscent of Dylan.
Felt Tips Comedy Hour (4:30pm)
Local comedy promoter Felt Nowt take over the stage for an hour!
The Sour Mash Trio (6pm)
Local Rockabilly masters, playing authentic honky-tonk sounds.
SATURDAY 24 JULY EVENING (doors 7pm) Ticket £12 evening or £20 all day
Serious Sam Barrett (8pm)
Hard touring, folk and country singer/songwriter from Otley, West Yorkshire, playing honest, heartfelt self-penned and traditional songs on 12 string guitar and banjo.
The King Bees (9pm)
Surely the town's BEST authentic Chicago blues and R&B band headlining our Saturday party!
DJs Rob Heron & Stagger Lee Fisher (about 10:30pm)
Specialising in raw R&B, 60s soul, 50s Rock N Roll, Funk, Ska and Reggae, they have entertained dancers across the city as resident DJs at Soul Finger, Jumpin’, and Riddim.
SUNDAY 25 JULY EARLY AFTERNOON (doors 2pm) Ticket £10 or £25 all day
Bradley Creswick & friends (3pm)
Former leader of the Northern Sinfonia leader, violinist Bradley Creswick, will perform Brahms’ Clarinet Quintet with a group of hand-selected classical musicians.
SUNDAY 25 JULY MID-AFTERNOON Ticket £10 or £25 all day
Jasdeep Singh Degun and Harkiret Bahra (5pm)
GemArts Masala Festival presents a traditional North Indian classical performance by award-winning sitarist Jasdeep Singh Degun, accompanied by tabla by Harkiret Bahra.
SUNDAY 25 JULY EVENING (doors 6pm) Ticket £15 evening or £25 all day
Tenement Jazz Band (7pm)
A traditional jazz band formed in early 2018 and comprising musicians from various corners of Edinburgh’s vibrant jazz scene, brought together by their shared love of New Orleans music.
Nishla Smith Quintet (8:30pm)
Jazz North East presents a singer and songwriter who defies easy categorisation: her sets include a breathtaking variety, from celebrated originals to dark jazz standards and devastating ballads. Her dreamy aura is offset by an energetic band of Manchester’s finest young improvisers.
