The Glioblastoma Research Organization and award-winning celebrity Chef Lorena Garcia will partner for the organization’s inaugural fundraiser to benefit glioblastoma research. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization raises awareness and funds for cutting-edge research to find a cure for rare, malignant and fast-growing tumors affecting the brain or spine. Funds will benefit “Project Garcia,” named in honor of Chef Garcia’s brother, Carlos, who was diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2018.
Research will be directed by Dr. Michael E. Ivan, Co-Director of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Brain Tumor Initiative at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, who specializes in complex brain tumor, skull base tumor and epilepsy surgery. It will help combine two technologies, Simulated Raman Histology and 3D MR spectroscopy, that could revolutionize surgical treatment.
Guests will be treated to an exclusive culinary presentation by Chef Lorena Garcia. Amber Barbach, founder and director of The Glioblastoma Research Organization will give the opening remarks followed by guest speaker, Ricardo Jorge Komotar, MD, FAANS, FACS, Co-Director of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Brain Tumor Initiative.
A moving account of an 18+ year survivor of Glioblastoma will be presented as well as a silent auction and brand activations by in-kind sponsors, Vineyard Brands, 21 Seeds, ba/a, Breezo Marine, Liquid IV, Olipop, Vellamo Water, and more.
