For August's Sunday Sounds, we're very pleased to welcome The Gillies:
" The Gillies - Susan Turner and Mark Evans, are an award winning contemporary singer-songwriter duo with influences from Americana and Folk.
"Music for your graveside" is one way London-based Americana-alt folk duo The Gillies describe their songs. True, there's darkness in there but the graveside is also a place to reflect on life, love, loss and the moments of lightness and joy that confirm our existence, and The Gillies can convey all that in just one song. Their sound, a weaving together of steel-strung and tenor guitars, flits between the ethereal and gritty down-home reality. Delivered with unaffected clarity, their work combines bittersweet immediacy with an intangible sense of nostalgia. "
Graham Steel GSMC
"If you like Gillian Welch and Gretchen Peters you’ll love this."
“Bittersweet and bewitching songs that capture the elusiveness of a life we yearn for.”
House Concert organiser Hilary Waterfield
"Loved those songs - the arrangements had so much space! Like a late night drive through the American mid-west." - John Hocking,Twickfolk London
“There’s a refreshing honesty and unpretentious approach to everything that they do, music-making with clever wordplay and harmonies of the sweetest kind.
Get yourself a whole heap of outstanding songwriting.”
DJ Ritu - Radio Presenter at Resonance 104.4fm

Hosted by Tom Cole:
"Steeped in the traditions of American folk, country, gospel and blues, Tom's is an Americana style of Alt Country meets Greenwich Village Folk Revival.
Hailing from Hastings on the South Coast of England, Tom crafts heartfelt songs from everyday life, with a softly understated vocal style underpinned by a mix of Merle Travis style fingerpicking and country flatpicking.
Tom's new album 'Stops on the Way to Here' was released 22nd March 2024. Previous EPs 'The Road Less Travelled' and 'Ramblin' Man' are also available at tomcolemusic.co.uk and on streaming services."
