2024 Mullin Welch Lecture: Who Really Makes the Difference? The Gender Gap and Generational Divides in the 2024 Election
About this Event

Susan J. Demas, foremost expert on Michigan’s political scene, explores why men and women view this presidential election so differently. Why does age make such a difference? After all, whose vote will prevail? Offering perspectives from younger voters will be Susan’s daughter and recent college graduate, Angela Demas. Expect a lively discussion in the final days before the Nov. 5 election.

Part of the university’s “Year of Democracy, Civic Empowerment and Global Engagement,” this free event is presented by the Mullin Welch Endowed Lecture of the U-M Center for the Education of Women+ (CEW+).

Lunch to be served, with lecture to follow.

Susan J. Demas is a 24-year journalism veteran and one of the state’s foremost experts on Michigan politics, appearing on C-SPAN, MSNBC, CNN, and NPR. She is the Editor-in-Chief of the online political news site Michigan Advance and chief columnist, having previously served as the Editor and Publisher of Inside Michigan Politics, the most-cited political newsletter in the state. Susan’s award-winning political analysis has run in more than 100 national, international, and regional media outlets, including the Guardian U.K., NBC News, the New York Times, the Detroit News, and MLive.

Angela Demas won her first election at age 21 in the August primary for Meridian Township Clerk. If she wins her November election, she will be one of the youngest election administrators in the state. She is a 2023 graduate of Michigan State University's Residential College in the Arts and Humanities.
