About this Event
Slip into a wormhole in time to glimpse a possible river culture to come here along the Jones Falls. Join us for a guided tour of The Future of Here, a new exhibition at the Peale Community Museum. The Future of Here features work made by a collective of artists, researchers, and students at Johns Hopkins University in the fall of 2024, anchored in a class co-taught by visual artist Jordan Tierney and environmental anthropologist Anand Pandian. Using materials found along the Jones Falls watershed, the exhibit showcases artifacts of an imagined culture from the distant future, exploring the environmental values its people might have and what they might do with the relics of our own time.
Join us to hear firsthand about the process of placemaking, the gleaning of materials, the speculative visioning, and environmental imagination behind the artifacts on display. Guided tours conclude in a unique maker space where visitors are invited to use items wrested from the waterways to craft their own artifacts of significance. Visitors are encouraged to bring found objects and waste materials of their own to tinker and construct with, and to add their own ideas and artifacts to the evolving exhibition.
