ANTONIO VIVALDI: THE FOUR SEASONS TASANA NAGAVAJARA VIOLIN
GLADWIN PANTASTICO GUITAR
Antonio Vivaldi’s influence on the development of Baroque music was immense. He introduced a range of new styles and techniques to string playing and consolidated one of its most important genres, the concerto. Vivaldi’s best-known work The Four Seasons, a set of four violin concertos composed in 1723, are the world’s most popular and recognized pieces of classical music. The four violin concertos broke new ground with their programmatic depiction of the changing seasons and their technical innovations.
Violinist Tasana Nagavajara has performed throughout five continents alongside some of the world’s legendary artists such as Lord Yehudi Menuhin, and in many of the most prestigious concert halls including Musikvereinsaal and Konzerthaus in Vienna, Barbican Center and Cadogan Hall in London, Suntory Hall in Tokyo and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires among others. He has twice given recitals at the historic Mendelssohn House in Leipzig. Tasana is currently active as the artistic director of Bangkok’s ‘Pro Musica’ Group and a founding member of the Faculty of Music at Silpakorn University.
Gladwin Pantastico studied Classical Guitar at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Conservatory of Music in Manila under Professor Ruben F. Reyes. He was an active member of the UST Guitar Quartet and Ensemble.
During his time at UST, he competed in several classical guitar competitions, winning first prize at the University of the Philippines “Gitara” Competition, organized by the Spanish Embassy in Manila, and securing second prize at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ National Music Competition for Young Artists.
As a soloist, he has performed extensively and participated in international music festivals across the Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore. His notable performances include Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Concerto in D with the University of the Philippines Chamber Orchestra and Rodrigo’s Concerto Madrigal for Two Guitars with the UST Symphony Orchestra.
Pantastico has also premiered contemporary works, including Chiaroscuro for two guitars by Dr. Robert Casteels, performed with classical guitarist Manuel Cabrera II at the Esplanade Recital Studio, and On Taking Chances, a solo guitar piece by Filipino composer Danny Imson, at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music Concert Hall.
