The band were formed in 1968 from the remnants of the disbanded Band of the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars, and have grown in stature ever since.In recent years the band has cemented its status amongst the leading bands of the world, with contesting successes at all major competitions and a top 10 ranking for over a decade. In September 2024 the band achieved 2nd place at The British
Open Championships, its highest ever result at the contest, securing their place to represent England at the 2026 European Championships.
