About this Event
Pianist Horia Mihail has given concerts and solo and chamber music recitals in 24 countries on four continents, and has performed with famous musicians including Roman Totenberg, Peter Zazofsky, Andres Diaz and Nathaniel Rosen. His performances have also been broadcast on radio and television in Romania, Belgium, Britain, Denmark, Hungary, the United States and the Voice of America. In addition, he has made recordings with the National Radio Symphony Orchestra of Romania.
Horia made his debut in his native city of Brasov performing Haydn’s Concerto in D major at the age of only ten. Since then he has performed as a soloist more than one thousand times with the great majority of Romania’s symphonic orchestras, including the George Enescu Philharmonic and the National Radio Orchestra. “The rhythmic subtlety and articulation of the atmosphere, the sound color, have been such that this music (Prokofiev) too rarely enjoys”, wrote the Boston Globe in a review of one of his concerts.
After lecturing for three years at Boston University, Horia Mihail returned to his native Brasov in 2002 as the soloist of the city’s Philharmonic Orchestra and a member of the famous Romanian Piano Trio, alongside violinist Alexandru Tomescu and cellist Razvan Suma, with whom he has performed to great success in Romania and abroad.
Since 2009, he has been appointed concert soloist of the National Radio Orchestra, giving numerous concerts at the Radio Hall (with the National Radio Orchestra and conductors Jin Wang, Christian Badea, Gerd Schaller, Tiberiu Soare and many others), as well as on tour in Romania, Italy, Malaysia, and Japan.
Currently, Mr. Mihail is the Artistic Director of Brasov Philharmonic, General Director of “Apollonia” Cultural Center and is enjoying a very rich career both as a soloist and a chamber musician.
The program will include compositions by Enescu, Bartok, Schubert, Chopin, Grieg, Glinka, Dvorak, Ravel, Brahms, Tiberiu Brediceanu and Dan Dediu.
