AN INTERACTIVE PLAY FOR CHILDREN 4 to 9 YEARS OLD!
Bangkok Community Theatre will be back onstage in 2022 with a delightful, interactive fairytale production for young children: The Emperor's New Clothes.
A multi-national ensemble cast of five performers plus a musician will bring this tale to life on stage at Baan Rim Naam, a breezy, open-air restaurant down by the river in Chinatown.
Bring your little ones to BCT’s wonderfully inventive version of The Emperor's New Clothes to be performed in English twice daily at 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday, January 29 & 30, 2022.

Although designed for children 4 to 9 years old, parents will also enjoy this unique type of live theatre which stimulates the imagination and involves the audience in the action throughout!
Children are encouraged to come dressed in costume to add to the fun.

Come early to make a simple craft provided by Bangkok Patana School; the children can use the craft to participate in the show (craft is already included in the ticket price.) The ticket also includes a small snack from the venue; however, we hope you will arrive early to eat lunch before the 1:30pm show or stay late to eat supper after the 4pm show to enjoy the delicious family-friendly menu provided by Baan Rim Naam.
With magic and mime, mischief and mayhem, The Emperor's New Clothes promises to be a memorable family experience. But don’t delay! Seating is limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.
Tickets are available from January 3, 2022 at: https://www.ticketmelon.com/bangkokcommunitytheatre/emperor

FAQs for The Emperor’s New Clothes:
1. My son is three years old; can I bring him to the show?
The show is appropriate for children 4 to 9 years old and has lots of audience participation. It runs about an hour with 15-20 minutes of making a craft beforehand. If your child can sit through a video happily for an hour+, then he will enjoy it. If not, then we strongly advise that you wait until he is older; you want his first theatre experience to be a positive one. And while the play is very much geared to young children, we do not recommend the show for infants or toddlers because they may become startled by loud noises during the play and cry - and then must be taken out of the venue so as not to disturb the performance for the other audience members. If infants/toddlers do attend, they will need a ticket at B270 per person the same as everyone else.
2. What is interactive theatre?
At a typical stage production, the audience sits passively enjoying the performance of the actors. With interactive theatre or participation plays, the audience become part of the story. During this production of “The Emperor’s New Clothes”, the actors will ask the children in the audience to help them solve problems, sing songs and more. The actors will talk directly to the children and the children will be encouraged to reply.
3. Is there reserved seating?
There is no reserved seating for the show; however, there is no bad seat! The audience will sit on the floor right next to the action. There will be a few rows of chairs at the back for those who might find sitting on the floor for an hour uncomfortable. You may also bring a small pillow to sit on if you like. You and your friends can purchase tickets separately for the same performance and then sit together. Seating is on a first-come first serve basis so you should plan to arrive at the same time.
4. What time should we arrive and how long is the show?
There are two shows each day; one is at 1:30 pm and the other is at 4:00 pm. We recommend you arrive 45 minutes before the show to allow time to make the craft with your children, use the toilet and to get settled so that would be arrival times 12:45 pm and 3:15 pm for the two shows respectively. Additionally, if you'd like to have lunch at the venue before the 1:30 pm show, you could come as early as 12:00 noon. We kindly ask the audience members who attend the 1:30 pm performance to leave the venue by 3:15 pm to make room for the 4:00 pm audience members. The show lasts approximately 1 hour so the 1:30 performance should finish by 2:30 pm and the 4:00 pm performance should finish by 5:00 pm - a perfect time to stay for evening supper on the river. The venue will be open to the general public from 6 pm until 10 pm.
5. Is there food available at Baan Rim Naam?
A range of food to appeal to hungry families of all ages will be available. Baan Rim Naam is a public restaurant that is closed on the 29th and 30th during the day just for this event: however, their kitchen will be open for audience members. In addition to the small snack that comes with the ticket purchase, we hope that audience members will arrive early to eat lunch before the 1:30 pm show or stay late to eat supper after the 4 pm show. It is delightful to be able to enjoy a meal with the restaurant’s view of the river. We kindly ask that you refrain from eating during the show and please note that no outside food or beverage is allowed at the venue. For specific questions about the menu, please contact Baan Rim Naam directly: Email: [email protected] or call 0859046996.

6. How much do tickets cost?
Show Tickets are B270 per person regardless of age. The ticket includes a pre-show craft and a small snack.
7. How do I purchase tickets?
Tickets are available through Ticketmelon from January 3, 2022 at: https://www.ticketmelon.com/bangkokcommunitytheatre/emperor Ticketmelon offers a wide range of payment options. If you would like to purchase a large number of tickets, you can also contact BCT directly to arrange for an ATM transfer. Email [email protected]
8. Can I purchase tickets at the door?
If tickets are still available, they can be purchased at the door. However, BCT productions generally sell out with long waiting lists so we strongly recommend that you purchase in advance to avoid disappointment.
9. Where will the performance take place?
The play will be performed at Baan Rim Naam, 378 Soi Wanit 2, Talat Noi, Samphanthawong, Bangkok 10100. (https://goo.gl/maps/HKNx9ZjLEtvvs6AS9) This is an open air restaurant right on the river. The road in front of the venue is very narrow and one-way; you cannot drive all the way there. If you come by taxi, we suggest you get off at The Marine Department which is a 5-minute walk down some fun Chinatown alleys with great street art. Alternatively, you can park at River City which is a 10-minute walk away. If you are walking with a toddler, please allow more time.
10. Can my child wear a costume to the show?
By all means! We encourage the children to dress up as their favourite fairytale characters as it makes the event more fun. The actors will help seat the children when they first come into the theatre area and costumes are a great conversation starter! From past experience about half of the audience will dress up and half won't, so do whatever feels best to you.
11. Parking
There is no parking at the venue and we recommend you come by taxi and drop off at The Marine Department. The venue is a 5 minute walk from The Marine Department. Google Maps shows a clear route for walking. Parking is available at River City which is a 10-minute walk away.
12. What Covid-precautions are you taking?
We kindly ask that all audience members remain masked throughout the show and to refrain from attending if they feel unwell on the performance date. The 5 performers and our musician will perform maskless; however they will take Covid Tests on the Monday and Friday before the show. Everyone else at the venue should follow the normal protocol and remain masked with no eating or drinking during the actual performance. The venue is open on two sides with overhead fans and a breeze from the river which creates strong air circulation. Hand gel will be available along with a temperature check at reception. While the venue could easily accommodate more, for social distancing we have set the maximum capacity at 150 audience members per performance. Furthermore, the craft will be individually packaged to avoid sharing craft materials.
13. What is your refund policy?
Ticket purchases are final. There are no cancellations, refunds or exchanges. Should the performance be cancelled by BCT or the venue due to the pandemic, we will refund the ticket price; however, we are unable to refund the small Ticketmelon transaction & bank transfer fees. They consider those services already rendered.
14. Who are Bangkok Community Theatre?
BCT is the largest and longest running English-language community theatre group in Thailand. We are a voluntary, non-profit organisation, and with the help of our members we normally stage 3 to 4 productions each year for the local community. All BCT shows depend on volunteers from the community to perform on-stage and to help behind the scenes. As well as actors, every show needs a production team, props, set design, costumes, light and sound, front of house and backstage crews, publicity and fundraising (we’re always on the lookout for potential sponsors), so there are plenty of ways to get involved. If you are 18 years+ and want to become a member or just find out more about us, please visit our website at www.bangkokcommunitytheatre.com
