About this Event
Community and Conversation for Black and Brown moms
Come join us for an empowering and informative solutions circle event, in which Black and Brown mothers, expecting mothers and members of the healthcare community come together to discuss the unique challenges of breastfeeding, as well as barriers to pre- and post-natal support. We will share experiences, trade encouragement, and brainstorm solutions and ideas on getting the support we need to thrive. This in-person gathering will feature free food, community and conversation to help identify barriers to quality maternal healthcare for Black and Brown mothers, as well as opportunities for new programming and support.
Why It Matters
The conversation around breastfeeding in Black and Brown communities is literally a matter of life and death. Breastfed infants are 26% less likely to die between the second week of life and first birthday, compared with non-breastfed infants. This is critical, when you consider that the Black infant mortality rate is double that of White infants. Like other maternal health inequities, antiracist medicine and policies can improve breastfeeding outcomes, something our partners at Boston Medical Center’s Breastfeeding Equity Center are working to achieve.

Additional Information
We will be serving a free, continental breakfast to attendees of our first session and lunch attendees of the second session to keep everyone nourished and energized for the conversation.
