Tim’s jazz quartet will play his original work ‘The Eight Words’ – an acclaimed composition that explores the eight sayings of Jesus in St John’s Passion through the deeply expressive harmony and rhythm of the jazz tradition.
The eight movements, that journey through mystery, strength, despair and loving hope, will be interspersed with Malcolm performing some of his deeply moving passion poems. Together, the music and the poetry performed by these two engaging priest-artists who are masters of their crafts offer a fresh way to encounter familiar texts that have inspired artists throughout the centuries.
Malcolm and Tim comprise the former and current Chaplains of Girton College Cambridge.
Praise for ‘The Eight Words’:
“Beautifully played and conceived… ambitious thoughtful and accessible” (Paul Northup, Greenbelt)
“Inspired and reassuring” (Church Times)
“A quartet who play with invention and commitment throughout” (The Jazz Journal)
