MMTC is proud to present The Effect by Lucy Prebble. The Effect is a gripping psychological drama about love, mental health, and the ethics of medical experimentation. Set during a clinical drug trial for a new antidepressant, the story centers on two volunteers, Connie and Tristan, who experience an intense romantic connection. Overseeing the trial are Dr. Lorna James, a psychiatrist struggling with her own mental health, and Toby, a pharmaceutical company representative driven by profit. As the trial progresses, the characters grapple with questions of authenticity, free will, and the impact of Medic*tion on human emotions. The audience is invited to experience their struggle together and embrace the questions that are posed throughout the play.

At MMTC, we hope to create a space for dialogue in minority groups, to provide voices for those that can't be heard, and a platform for artists to be heard. We advocate for the voices of those who are too fearful to speak up. Unable to speak up for themselves, we act as the conduit for them.
