About The Edgar Macías Trio
Edgar’s Latin Jazz Trio, featuring UK bassist Mike Green and Venezuelan multi-percussionist/ singer Néstor Pedrales, fuses hard bop, funk, jazz, Latin jazz, Brazilian, salsa, and Venezuelan music, creating a vibrant South American & Caribbean sound with a jazz approach.
Edgar Macías – Venezuelan-born pianist, vocalist and musical director, classically trained at J.M. Olivares School of Music in Caracas. He has performed across Latin America with major orchestras and conductors such as Aldemaro Romero and Loren Schöenberg, accompanying leading Latin singers. In the UK, he has played with stars like Tito Gómez, toured with Salsa Céltica, and collaborated with jazz greats including Wynton Marsalis, David Murray and Scott Hamilton. Edgar leads projects ranging from Latin jazz and Buena Vista Social Club tributes to salsa ensembles and jazz quartets.
Mike Green – Birmingham Conservatoire First-Class graduate bassist (double & electric) with a career spanning intimate jazz clubs (Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express, The 606) to BBC prime-time TV alongside Jamie Cullum and Dame Shirley Bassey. A long-time collaborator with Edgar (over 25 years), he performs in the Buena Vista Social Club quintet and in projects blending swing, gypsy jazz, Brazilian, and salsa music.
Néstor Pedrales – Caracas-born percussionist, singer and researcher of Afro-Venezuelan music traditions, co-founder of an El Sistema nucleus in Anzoátegui. He has supported salsa artists such as Charlie Aponte and José Alberto “El Canario,” and keeps Venezuelan traditions alive through community projects. Recently he joined Edgar’s Quintet and Salseros UK, performing on congas, bongos, timbales and vocals, and appears in Edgar’s trio and quartet projects mixing jazz, Latin jazz, salsa, Brazilian and Venezuelan rhythms.
