About this Event
The Eagle & Child Society (E&CS) is a social gathering where we host topical discussions, have the chance meet others, and is open to anyone interested in attending.
The name ‘Eagle & Child’ is an homage to Inklings, the regular gathering of friends in Oxford, England. The Inklings was comprised of C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Charles Williams, Owen Barfield, and others. They met regularly at the Eagle & Child pub. They shared their lives, their work, and their ideas with one another in the informal, friendly setting of the local public house.
The E&CS intends to foster a similar environment and establish a group of “regulars” who want to navigate life and today’s issues together—even if we disagree on the issues. Each gathering (usually be the second Friday of the month) will convene at 7pm and will center on the discussion of a single topic.
Anyone is welcome to join our gathering. The only rules are to engage in civil discussion, give others a chance to share their thoughts, and to have a good time.
You do not need to register to attend ⏤ all you have to do is show up at 7pm at the Galway Arms in Lincoln Park. But we recommend that you join our mailing list so you’re notified of any changes or cancellations (you can join at https://bit.ly/EagleAndChildSociety).
