The Duds are a folk/pop duo from St. John’s, NL, featuring Melanie O’Brien and Phil Goodridge. Their debut album, These Words I Can’t Forget, produced by award-winning Ian Foster, was released in March 2020 and earned them nominations for MusicNL’s “Pop Artist of the Year” and “Rising Star of the Year.” Melanie and Phil each have strong individual careers: Melanie’s solo album SHINING IN THE BLUE made her a MusicNL award winner and multi-time nominee, while Phil has been a versatile contributor to Newfoundland’s music scene for over 20 years.Since forming The Duds in 2018, they’ve toured extensively across Newfoundland and Atlantic Canada. Together, they’ve released five additional projects, including summer singles, a holiday collection, Halloween tracks, and their latest single Damsel, released in Spring 2025 and produced by Pete MacDonald. They also spent four and a half years as resident artists with Terra Bruce Productions, performing and touring nationally in shows like No Change in the Weather, The Wild Rovers, Christmas at The Majestic Theatre, and An American Hymnal. Currently, The Duds are in the studio working on their next full-length album, Late to the Party.
