About this Event

Born in Lithuania, Gediminas Karkauskas is both a jazz and classically trained pianist and has been based in Dublin for the past 20 years. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of the Hague and completed his Masters at the Dublin Institute of Technology Conservatory of Music. Since arriving in Dublin, Gediminas has returned many times to continental Europe to appear in concert venues and jazz festivals and has received numerous invitations from the Baltic States, including the Broma Jazz Festival and Klaipeda City Jazz Festival in his native Lithuania. Gediminas has performed in many notable concerts in Ireland including a performance at the National Concert Hall with celebrated Irish jazz guitarist Louis Stewart. He has also played at various jazz festivals in Ireland, such as the Kilkenny Jazz Festival and Cork Guinness Jazz Festival.

In October 2020, Gediminas released his debut album, “Lost Suite,'' a concept album of original compositions. It received extremely positive reviews globally, remained on the US charts for fifteen weeks and was listed as one of the top jazz albums of the year by “Jazzfuel.” Journalist and author Debbie Burke (USA) dedicated an entire chapter of her book, “Tasty Jazz Jams for Our Times: Vol. 2,” to the album, whilst Ian Mann (Jazz Mann CD Review UK) wrote of it “The melodies here are exquisite and the execution flawless, melding jazz and classical disciplines to deliver six sparkling new originals.” This widespread praise was followed by a rousing CD launch concert for “Lost Suite” at St. Ann’s Church in Dublin.

In addition to Gediminas’ other musical endeavours, he frequently travels to the top London jazz club, The Archduke, where he performs to packed houses both as a solo player and in a trio with Julian Fenton, drums (from Duran Duran) and Julie Walkington, bass. Gediminas is currently working on his upcoming album, due to be released in 2025.
