Dead Puppet Society and The Princess Theatre present THE DPS LAB, a showcase of three exciting new works from Dead Puppet Society's Academy artists. It’s a one-night-only event of theatrical exploration from some of Brisbane's hottest new performance makers you won’t want to miss!
🚀ABOUT THE WORKS🚀
7.30PM WEDNESDAY 10 JULY
HUMAN SCAFFOLDS MARVELLOUS CREATIONS BY VOIIID COLLECTIVE
This work follows a journey of self-discovery through a fantastical world. This immersive spectacle of dance, featuring an original sound score, recycled wearables, and AI visuals explores themes of loss, letting go, and the blurred lines between reality and fantasy.
SMALL PLANETS BY CO-CREATORS JULIE RITCHEY AND GEORGETTE KELLY
Small Planets is an aesthetic, sensory, and somatic experience designed specifically for the youngest among us (0-7 months) that honours the emotions and wisdom of both babies and adults. Audiences will experience a small taste of this special new work, with a video preview offering a brief glimpse into the elusive world of Small Planets, followed by a live Q&A with co-creator Julie Ritchey and Dead Puppet Society's Associate Creative Director Matt Seery.
SURVIVAL ON A STRANGE PLANET BY DARCIE RAE BOATSWAIN AND CALUM JOHNSTON
Following an unplanned crash landing into an Earthling’s apartment in 1994, an interstellar traveller must carefully plan their first steps into the outside world. Survival on a Strange Planet looks at the concept of the Other created by the collective human imagination, as well as the Others we create in our own society, through playful circus, clowning, and puppetry.
Dead Puppet Society and The Princess Theatre, with support from The Jelley Family Foundation, Arts Queensland, and Creative Australia as well as Studio1, can’t wait to share the dawning of three new performance works that will take you out of this world, blur the lines between reality and fantasy, and prompt individuals to transform anxieties and uncertainties into a sense of deeper connectedness.
DPS Academy is Dead Puppet Society’s artist training program and incubator for design-led performance. This unique masterclass series brings together local artists to develop their original ideas under the guidance of Dead Puppet Society’s team. Now in its eigth year, the DPS Academy is a unique professional development opportunity for emerging and independent artists working in the form of visual theatre.
