About this Event
“The Door is Ajar”, a quintet which had its premiere at the 2022 Presenting Denver Dance Festival, is set to music by award winning Michigan-based composer Bill Ryan. As a door left ajar can be an omen of both opportunities and threats to come, the dance walks a tightrope between unease and hope. The dance showcases the artistry and creativity of five members of the Hannah Kahn Dance Company.
These shows will also include a brand-new sextet set to one movement of a Brahms string quartet in which Kahn’s creative process demands very specific moves from the dancers; their creativity shines as they allow the phrasing and emphasis morph in response to how they hear the music.
The company is reviving “The Get-Go”, an energetic and playful dance for the whole company, choreographed in 2013. “Quicksilver” made in 2017 will also be reconstructed for these shows. This passionate and flowing quintet is set to music of Leonard Bernstein. “In Tune” (1999) is the oldest dance on the program. This sassy quintet uses ragtime/jazz piano music recorded in the 1940s. “Hither and Yon”, “Meadow at Dawn”, and “Good Day” which all had their premieres at the Studio Loft in March of 2022 will complete the program.
*ticket sales cover the cost of the theater rental and the technical crew. If you would like to donate to the dancers rehearsal fees and performance pay, please consider an additional donation.
