Since web 2.0 entered the scene, modern web development and web services have seen enormous growth. With growth came also a race to offer users richer and more interactive experiences. Over the years, the foundational paradigms of the web, Hypermedia and Representational State Transfer (REST), seem to have drowned in the plethora of frameworks and technologies that have emerged, and are now completely forgotten or at least a historical nuisance standing in the way for a fluent and dynamic web app.On Wednesday 15 January at 10:00 we meet for the next session of the Developer Network. This talk is about how we can bring hypermedia and REST back from the dead.
We will:
- Revisit hypermedia and REST and describe their origins and how they helped shape the web.
- Address the limits of these conventional technologies in a world dominated by dynamic web interfaces, and talk about how the modern web evolved on top of them.
- Introduce HTMX as a way to go back to the roots of the web and still write modern and responsive web apps.
Come along for an exploration of time-tested principles and innovation, and uncover the potential of a reimagined web.
