The Defining Ten is where an artist/creative is invited to take us on a musical dot-to-dot journey of the tracks that led them to who they are today. These could be the first song they have a memory of, first purchase, first song they learnt to play, the track that opened doors, the track that closed doors, a track that inspired and led to a new musical direction – so expect a variety of tracks from themselves and other artists. These tracks will be played in turn – either from vinyl, CD or streamed – and discussed with the artist. On Thursday 28th November we welcome Michele Stodart to Worthing to discuss her Defining Ten.
Michele is a multi award winning singer songwriter, multi instrumentalist, producer and musical director, best known as bassist, vocalist and co-songwriter for the Mercury nominated band The Magic Numbers, who have released five critically acclaimed albums and supported the likes of Neil Young, Radiohead, Brian Wilson and the Flaming Lips.
Her early childhood was spent in Trinidad until her family fled a military coup, leading them to New York and eventually to London where she is now based. As well as her work with the Magic Numbers - who she continues to play and tour with - she has released three solo albums, with her latest – Invitation – winning UK Album Of The Year at the UK Americana awards in 2024 and where she also scooped the UK Artist Of The Year award.
She has been building a name for herself as a musical director, collaborator and producer, being invited to curate stages at a number of festivals and stages as well as curating, hosting and directing an annual multi artist show celebrating International Women’s Day. Artists she has collaborated with include Kathryn Williams, Billy Bragg, Bernard Butler, David Kitt, Emily Barker, Natalie Imbruglia and many more.
We are very excited to be spending several hours in Michele's company where she will be discussing – and in some cases performing - the 10 songs which have inspired and defined her wonderful career, followed by an intimate solo performance.
