About this Event

Discover and celebrate the incredible life of Ephraim Henry Coombe, a self-made man who defied limited education to achieve remarkable success.

As a journalist, newspaper editor and 14 year representative of the Barossa district in parliament, Coombe championed various causes. These included proportional voting, women's suffrage and extending railways to rural areas.

Despite facing persecution for his anti-conscription stance during World War I, Coombe remained steadfast. He even faced prosecution under the War Precautions Act in his own electorate.

Coombe's unwavering commitment to his principles made him a hero to the working class and community, firmly establishing Gawler's region on the map.
