Formed in Chelmsford in late 1977, The Deep Throats made a big impression on the Essex punk scene, and built up a sizeable following in the local area.In 1978 the classic single "Rock 'n' Roll Discharge" was released on the short lived Limp label. It was the Number One seller in Chelmsford record shops, keeping ABBA at Number Two. It was also favouable reviewed in Melody Maker and NME, and was regularly played by the likes of Mike Read and John Peel. Now it sits near the top of many collector's wants lists and changes hands for a tidy sum.
High profile support slots with the likes of The Adverts and The Radio Stars cemented the band's reputation, but unfortunately the band drifted apart in 1980. Brief reformations happened in 1986 and 1989, but fast forward all the way to 2021 and Detour Records decided to release a compilation CD called "We're the Force", containing both sides of the band's single along with a whole host of unreleased material.
This renewed interest in the band prompted them to get back together for a sell out gig at London's legendary Hope and Anchor in late 2023. Don't miss out on the band's homecoming gig. It's a one-off and may never be repeated.
