Seattle-based curator and art historian Chloe Dye Sherpe presents the distinct careers of Northwest artists David McCosh and Morris Graves. During the twentieth century, these artists sought to diverge from both the prevalent artistic movements in the United States and viewer expectations through their unique insights into the natural beauty surrounding them in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. The aesthetic and career choices of McCosh and Graves prompt one to question the role of the viewer, discover humanity's relationship with nature, and contemplate the journey toward self-discovery.This lecture series is made possible by the David John and Anne Kutka McCosh Memorial Museum Endowment Fund and the support of JSMA's McCosh Advisory Committee.
