The Dark Eighties presents the Saskatoon debut of The Dark Eighties dance party + early Halloween Party, so put on a costume if u want!
Dark to us means gothy, dark, but can also mean niche or obscure to the mainstream. You'll hear cult 1980s (and some new) dance hits, synth pop, dark wave, cold wave, minimal wave, EBM, industrial, deathrock, new romantics, italo disco, new beat, goth, punk, post punk, international and more! Sometimes due to the original tastes/knowledge of the DJS, you will not hear absolutely ALL these genres (for example, some DJs know lots of Italo Disco and others know none) but you will hear MANY!! After a dream of a NEW night featuring a mix of 80s cult hits, obscure music, international songs and new dark songs started 11 years ago, DJ Nowhere Girl (from Terror Bird) started The Dark Eighties on the chequered dive bar floors of The Astoria in the downtown Eastside of Vancouver, Canada. Today, The Dark Eighties does occasional parties around the world with local djs (and sometimes travelling djs too!), giving them a chance to showcasing their unique tastes in these particular musical styles using the concept and genres that fit in with The Dark Eighties and showcasing live bands, many of them local. We are also trying our best to check what else is going on and not interfere with the success of local goth nights and only aim to put on between 1-3 nights per year in most cities
Some bands we have hosted or done dj sets for: Pink Turns Blue, Terror Bird, Black Marble, Light Asylum, Patriarchy, M!R!M, Videotraum, Boy Harsher, Clan of Xymox, Devours, Chasms, Odonis Odonis, Skeletal Family, Silent Star, China Aster, Blood in the Champagne, Suburban Spell, Maximilian Tanner, Foreign Resort, Girlfriends and Boyfriends, Devours + many more!
We have done nights in NYC, London, Montréal, Melbourne, Wellington, Auckland, Toronto, and more!
