The Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation will have a field trip June 8-9, 2024, that will be organized by the Washington Chapter. We will explore the area around The Dalles, Oregon on the Columbia River.Friday, June 7 will be your opportunity to see sights on your own along the Columbia River per the information below, and then at 7:00 PM a no host dinner at Clock Tower Ales (311 Union St,) in The Dalles.
Saturday, June 8 at 10:00 AM we will meet at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center & Museum (CGDC) (5000 Discovery Dr. I-84 exit #76 or #82) for a 10:30 AM program by Susan Buce, Museum Registrar, on Seufert Cannery, Winquatt Museum, Fish wheels, and Celilo Falls. Robert Heacock will also share a collection of photos of this area of the Columbia River, and a selection of maps from the estate of Roger Wendlick. It will be followed by BYO lunch and an opportunity to view the exhibits at the CGDC. We will then meet at Rock Fort Campsite (near 801 W 1st St, The Dalles, OR, or I-84 exit #84 or #85), then travel to The Dalles Lock and Dam Visitor Center and circa 1890 Seufert Cannery (3545 Bret Clodfelter Way, Exit #87) and have a view of 15 Mile Creek and the powerhouse. We will finish at Celilo Park (I-84 exit #97) and the site of Celilo Falls, and then 6:00 PM dinner at Cousins Restaurant and Saloon (2114 W 6th St, The Dalles, OR I-84 Exit #83 or #84).
Sunday, June 9 we will meet at 9:00 AM at Horsethief Lake State Park and view the petroglyph display and then walk the scenic trail around Horsethief Butte, led by Rennie and Barb Kubik.

End of Oregon Trail Marker at City Park 5th Street and Union street
Pulpit Rock – 12th Street and Court Street (next to high school tennis courts 220 E 10th St, The Dalles, OR)
Sorosis Park Viewpoint on West Scenic Drive
Downtown The Dalles which now has 32 Murals
Group camping will be available at the Deschutes River State Recreation Area site A, on the Biggs-Rufus Highway.
There is a maximum of 25 people and fees are paid by the PNW Region. Access is from I-84 exit #97 or #104
