About this Event
“The Current in the Community: Lessons from the East Palestine Train Derailment” will feature an art gallery, documentary short film, and panel discussion that seeks to both honor those impacted by the train derailment and highlight what this environmental disaster means for the future of the region.
Panelists include EP residents, advocates, and others affected and displaced by the derailment. During the Q&A, we will discuss what makes a resilient community; where industry fits into the story of our region; and how collective power can create change.
The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with an art exhibit displaying photographs, short videos, and other media from RiverWise’s recent project in partnership with Clean Air Action Fund titled “Still Here.” At 7 p.m., guests will watch a short documentary that follows several residents as they discuss the aftermath of the derailment.
Following the film, Daniel Rossi-Keen, PhD, executive director of RiverWise, will lead the panel discussion.
Space is limited and registration is required.
The event is free with a suggestion donation of $15. Proceeds will be donated to local nonprofits serving affected residents.
“The Current” is a lecture series hosted by Penn State Beaver and RiverWise that seeks to generate intentional conversations about who Beaver County has been, what we are becoming, and how we fit into the emerging story of human history. “The Current in the Community” is a new installment of the speaker series that prioritizes bringing these conversations to Beaver County neighborhoods.
